Historical information

'Rebuilding at the store of John Martin & Co. has been proceeding for 12 months and is expected to be finished by Christmas time. The steel frame of the new central block has been practically completed, and the concrete structure has reached the second floor of the building, which will comprise seven floors and two basements. A remarkable engineering feat was associated with the building in raising the levels of the two adjoining blocks to that of the central block. Fifty men are engaged on the work directly. The contractors are Fricker Bros., and the architects Woods, Bagot, Laybourne-Smith and Irwin. [Advertiser, 25 June 1935.]
