Historical information

The Wallaroo Iron Works was first opened in Wallaroo in April 1868 under the management of Mr Thomas Horwood. It was built to supply the Mines and Smelting Works with castings at a short notice. In May of 1869 the foundry was sold to local builder Mr T.R. Heath, after six years the business was sold to W.H.May and Stephen Tonkin in October 1875. [Information provided by N. Woods.].
