Summary

Rising Sun Hotel, Kensington. The photograph shows the Rising Sun Hotel which stood on the corner of Bridge Street and High Street. It existed from 1882-1909. The licence was lost following Local Option Poll, although it was licenced for one day to celebrate the centenary. In the photograph the newly built hotel has no signage apart from a small sign which says that Hy. J Newlyn is the proprietor, a position he held from 1882-1885. The original Rising Sun Hotel stood at 64 Bridge Street from 1848 - 1882 when the licence was transferred to the nearby larger premises. However the corner hotel was later closed as a hotel and 64 Bridge Street continues as a hotel.
