Summary

Pioneer's Memorial on Quarry Hill, Kingscote. After the unveiling ceremony by the Governor Sir Winston Dugan, 9 November 1936. This memorial commemorates South Australia's first settlers who arrived here in July 1836 onboard the "Duke of York". The foundation stone was laid by Mrs McLaglan, a descendant of Thomas Hudson Beare, one of the first settlers. Descendants of the pioneers were asked to plant trees around the memorial.
