Summary

The Observatory, West Terrace, February 14th 1940. The Observatory stood on the corner of West Terrace and Glover Avenue from 1860-1952. It was built for Sir Charles Todd, South Australia's first Government Astronomer who lived onsite. Sir Charles was occupied with observing the meridian passage of the stars for reference and to assist with time keeping. A three storey tower adjoins the two storey bluestone building that housed the Observatory. This photograph shows the southern side of the building.
