Summary

Hughes Cornish Pumping Plant - pumping engine in background, stables enclosed by stone walls, in front. Post and rail enclosure in front of stables, enclose on the right, Bennett's shaft and on left, Duncan's shaft. The Moonta Mines mined copper ore. The Hughes Enginehouse dewatered the underground workings on the mines orebodies. The classic Cornish enginehouse was constructed alongside the Hughes Shaft by John Beaglehole. It was named after the founder of Moonta Mining Company Walter Watson Hughes. The enginehouse and chimney were built in 1865.
