Band organised by Germans interned on Torrens Island. Conditions were harsh in the camp with Captain GE Hawkes abusing and ill treating the internees. Following two courts of inquiry the camp was closed in 1915. To add to the harsh conditions the internees, housed in tents, had to provide their own food. Despite these hardships they managed to organise cultural events such as the band photographed here.
