Summary

Police Station, marking the site of the birthplace of the town which is the oldest in the Flinders Ranges. When Melrose Police Station was established in 1948 it was the base for the largest police district in the world. A constable, two troopers and an Aboriginal tracker were responsible for an area that stretched up to the Timor Sea in the north of Australia.
