Summary

Old chapel at Brownhill Creek near Mitcham. The foundation stone of this buildings reads "This stone was laid by Mrs Joseph Grigg, 1874". The Griggs family lived at Brownhill Creek since James Grigg settled there with his wife Catherine who gave birth to a son also named James who was one of nine children. The only marriage to take place at the Brownhill Creek Chapel was between Charles Orchard and Ann Grigg, daughter of Joanne Griggs in 1892. In 1893 the chapel was used as a school until it closed 32 years later.
