Summary

[General description]This two storey stone Instutute building was opened in January 1882 with much praise for its interior but general dislike of its facade which was replaced in January 1884. Like many institute buildings it housed the Public Library and reading room. [On back of photograph] 'Maitland Institute / 1932 / Reproduced in Chronicle, September 8th, 1932'.
