Summary

[General description] This purpose built Institute, built from calcrete with rendered quoins was completed in 1880 and was considered the finest public building in Port Wakefield at the time. Its gables have scalloped bargeboards with filials at the top. The public reading room is on the left, the library on the right. There was also a subscribers' reading room. [On back of photograph] 'Port Wakefield Institute and Reading Room / 1932 / Reproduced in the Chronicle for August 11, 1932'.
