Summary

St. Thomas Anglican Church, Port Lincoln [duplicate copy at PRG 458/1/1/133] St Thomas Church of England was built in 1850 and a foundation stone was laid. It is the oldest church on Eyre Peninsula. In 1876 a later foundation stone was laid in the transept and chancel when the church was enlarged. Subscriptions were levied from members of the congregation to pay for seats in the church. These were payable after shearing but when people from the country attended the church services there was confusion about where to sit as the pews were let and relet. St Thomas Church of England was built before state aid to churches. The church stood on the corner of Adelaide Place and Washington Street.
