Historical information

A researcher writes: James Goddard jumped ship in 1840 at Port Adelaide. He discovered gold at Humbug Scrub (1870s?) and a flourishing gold mine and tent city developed there. This building was not a hall - it was a hotel-cum-residence-cum-store-cum-Post Office. The latter was run by Goddard's daughter Ellen. The dark figure in the right hand side doorway is his wife Eleanor Goddard (nee Warner). After Goddard's death, the building was removed by his grandson, Arnold Jenkins, to his citrus property at Salisbury and used as a packing shed.
