Summary

Three men posing for the photograph next to a long trench dug for a large reinforced concrete pipe whilst two worker stand in the trench, one on the pipe and the other holding a spade in the trench. One man is formally dressed in a three piece suit, while the others are construction workers and dressed more casually with rolled up sleeves. The street is shaded by leafy trees and the trench has been barricaded with temporary timber fencing.

General notes

Number 6 of 35 photographs relating to Peter Clarn and his work as a plasterer and modeler, showing various scenes of pipe-laying around Adelaide and examples of cement form work and brick work. Mr Clarn was an organiser for the Plasterers' Society.

Historical information

Peter Clarn was a plasterer and modeler and this collection of photographs relates to concrete work, primarily concrete pipes and decorative pillars, at a factory in Kilkenny and construction sites on streets around Adelaide. There are several concrete company names referred to in Kilkenny over the years including Concrete and Steel Ltd., Kilkenny Pipe Works, and The South Australian Reinforced Concrete Company. Clarn was an Organiser for the Plasterers' Society of South Australia. In 1926 Clarn made a maquette of Sir Ross Smith from plaster on wire mesh, as part of preparations for the Sir Ross Smith Memorial at Cresswell Gardens.
