Historical information

Lt. Frank B. Willmott was a pilot in the Australian Flying Corps (AFC). He was born in Adelaide and enlisted in the 4/2 Australian Flying Squadron on 18 September 1916 at the age of 22. He had previously worked as a tailor and motor mechanic. He was reported missing on 13 January 1918. His wife Ida Willmott of Prospect made enquiries with the Red Cross and discovered he had become a prisoner of war in Germany. At the end of the war, he became an exchanged prisoner and was repatriated to Hull on 14 December 1918. After the war Frank Willmott co-owned the Willmott Gardner Aviation Company in partnership with William Gardner.
