Historical information

The Imperial Guest House was run, at various times, by Mary Anne Maloney, the Misses McCormack, Mrs M.J. Hughes and Mrs Shepherd. An advertisement in the 'Victor Harbour Times', 20 August 1975, reads: 'Please Note Premises previously known as "The Imperial Guest House", 10 Crozier Rd., Victor Harbor, are now to be known as MIRAMARE REHAB. CENTRE'. A researcher has provided the following information: 'The Imperial Hotel/Guest House was at 10 Crozier Street, Victor Harbor. In August 1975 it became the Miramare Rehabilitation Centre/Hostel and in the 1990s the (Old) Smugglers' (Inn). The Imperial was built in 1927: "The Imperial, adjoining Gertymore, in Crozier street, is now nearing completion. The building, of 20 rooms, is very well equipped with all modern comforts, including a spacious balcony with a splendid sea view; and is newly furnished through out. It is being erected by Mr. Eric Rumbelow, and will be occupied by Mrs. M. J. Hughes, who has taken over a lease for the next five years. Accommodation is now available for summer visitors."
