General notes

One of a collection of 12 photographs relating to Adelaide, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, Angaston and Tanundaa.

Reusch Series No. 9

Historical information

Johannes Arthur Reusch was raised in Angaston before moving to Nuriootpa where he opened his own pharmacy at Murray Street in 1928. He was a keen photographer and developed his film in a dark room in the cellar of the pharmacy. With his friend William Coulthard and other interested towns people he became involved in the development of Nuriootpa after World War II. Reusch Park was named after him because of his role in working with the Housing Trust to obtain and develop low cost housing in Nuriootpa for families in need. He received an Order of the British Empire in 1971 for his contributions to community planning.
