Summary

Arrival of Lord Tennyson at Adelaide Railway Station in April 1899. The photograph shows Lord Tennyson and his wife (Audrey) arriving at the Adelaide Railway Station on his way to taking up the position of Governor of South Australia. The dignitaries and militia are lined up in North Terrace to greet them. He held this position from April 1899 to July 1902. He then accepted the position of Governor General of Australia which he held from 1903 to 1904. He left Australia in 1904 to live on the Isle of Wight. Lord Tennyson (2nd Baron Hallam) was the eldest son of the poet Lord Tennyson and lived from 1852-1928.
