End of Queensland's first innings

End of Queensland's first innings

Charles Christ stumped by Walker off Grimmett at the end of Queensland's first innings, 26th December 1938. The batsman is Charles "Chilla" Christ. Christ had been dismissed (stumped) by the wicket-keeper Charles William (Charlie) Walker, off the bowling of Clarence Victor (Clarrie) Grimmett. The Sheffield Shield match was played at the Adelaide Oval on the 24th, 26th, 27th, 28th December 1938. Incidentally, in that match, Christ dismissed Donald Bradman (for 225 runs), which lead a newspaper to report something along the lines of, 'It took Christ to dismiss Bradman'.

On-field break for cricket team

On-field break for cricket team

Break during a cricket match between West Torrens and another team. West Torrens in the field with Don Bradman in pads drinking. According to a researcher, the person in the pads is the wicketkeeper. Bradman is not known to have kept wickets at any level of the game (schooldays may be an exception). This photo is possibly from the West Torrens Cricket Club vs Kensington CC match in October 1940 when Bradman resumed playing club games in the new season. He played for Kensington Cricket Club, so if the fielding team is West Torrens then it is hardly likely to be Bradman.
