Start of the SA Derby, run at Wayville on February 5 1947. The winner was Amorous driven by T. Burke in a mile rate of 2.20.4. The race was worth £1,400. Amorous defeated Inspire and Prince Regent. Amorous drew barrier 1 but galloped at the start and lost 50 yards. He was a brother to Admirer who won the SA Derby in 1940. Amorous was a hot favourite and only paid money back for a win and place.
