Summary

A view of the Birdseye Memorial Cairn which was unveiled in 1965 on the Eyre Highway near the Iron Knob turnoff. A second photo shows the detail on the plaque which reads: The Birdseye Memorial Cairn / erected to / perpetuate the outstanding services of / Sylvia Jessie Katherine Birdseye / 26-1-1902 to 9-8-1962 / who introduced overland mail and passenger bus services / between Adelaide and Eyre Peninisula in 1928 / and who drove approximately 4 million miles in / 43 years. E.P Local Govt Assn / Sept 1 1966 / unveiled by her daughter Sylvia'.
