Summary

North Adelaide looking north west from the North Adelaide Congregational Church. In the foreground are the Brougham Gardens, which include exotic trees, shrubs and palms. The houses of North Adelaide recede into the distance either side of the gardens. Acres 726, 727, 737, 738, 739. Historical information

Denis Parslow worked as an Aerial Photographer for the South Australian Department of Lands (now the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources) from the 1970s until 2003, when the Aerial Survey Unit was outsourced. On completion of his government service, he then worked for several different private companies doing freelance aerial photography. Since retiring, Denis has pursued his life-long interests in aviation and photography by purchasing a drone. This machine has the capacity to take moving and still photography at a good resolution. Denis' knowledge of SA areas and terrain and his interest in capturing the changing nature of the State, have lead him to look at the SLSA Pictorial collections on-line. There he found a series of photographs taken by Francis Gabriel in early 20th Century South Australia. These included views from the tower of the then Congregational Church (now Uniting Church), in Brougham Place, North Adelaide. Denis has replicated these views using his drone.
