Summary

Participants in the 1936 'Pageant of Progess' held as part of South Australia's Jubilee. The photo features a Cobb & Co. coach with four horses in harness, four South Australian troopers in uniform as guards, and passengers dressed in period costume. [A photograph taken during the parade appeared in 'The Chronicle', 24 December 1936, page 30.]

Historical information

The photo was owned by Bernie Rofe-Rogers, and was always kept, unframed, on a shelf in her lounge room. Due to the fact that the Hill family ran the Cobb & Co. coaches in South Australia, it is possible that the coach and possibly some of the participants could have been connected to that family and/or business. It is also possible that some were from Rofe and Co. or even Perry Engineering as those businesses were still operating in 1936, and there were marriage ties between the Hill, Rofe and Perry familes.
