Summary

Construction of the Bakewell Bridge at Mile End. The imposing two storey red brick building on the corner of Henley Beach Road & James Congdon Drive still bears the words 'Thomas Hardy & Sons Ltd Adelaide Wine Cellars' along the top edge of the facade. Designed by architect William Anderson and built by James King & Son in 1893. A bronze plaque honouring South Australia's pioneer winemaker Thomas Hardy was unveiled on 26th March 2012 at Adelaide Wine Cellars, now Temple Christian College, in Mile End.

Photograph comes from an album of mostly construction photographs of various buildings and sites in the Adelaide region, by the construction company William Essery and Sons of Norwood. The photographs have been attributed to his son William Essery (1889-1973).
