Historical information

Pastor Fritzsche landed at Port Adelaide with a party of Lutherans and later the majority moved to Lobethal (new Tweedvale) and in 1842 founded a Lutheran settlement there. Pastor Strempel who was one of the three students of the Lobethal College was installed as pastor at Hahndorf in 1855. The College provided a means for Lutherans to receive education and training and many were engaged in commerical pursuits, law and medicine.
