Summary

[General description] The pristine new Colonial Mutual Building is a fine example of the Art Deco style. There are a few parked cars in the street, dwarfed by the smart Delage on the left. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 141 / Grenfell Street, south side / February 19th 1938 / The Colonial Mutual Fire Insurance Company building was remodelled in 1937 / Compare with B 6884 / The left side of the building in the centre is 16 yards west of the west side of James Place / Frontage is 13 yards' (Another hand) 'The car on the left is a Delage bought in Paris by N.H. Pearse of 'The Gums' Station / It was originally a tourer but at a later date Eric Winter was commissioned to convert it into a sports car in which form it appears in the photo / Information supplied by Mr. George Brooks, Tranmere, 21st September 1978.
