Summary

Early settlers houses, Kangaroo Island built in 1853. (See Cockburn's Pastoral Pioneers v.2 p. 211). They were built for the South Australian Company (see Register, November 19, 1925, 10c, though see below). Information received from Mrs. Carter of Kingscote whose father subsequently owned the houses.

These cottages are known as "Faith, Hope & Charity" and were built by Michael and Charles Calnan, who had arrived on the Island with their parents on board the 'Africaine' in November 1836. They were not built for the South Australian Company as noted in the caption. [from information received from researcher].
