General notes

Herbig's Tree is located on the main road in Springton, situated in the eastern Barossa Valley, about 60 kilometres north east of Adelaide. The large hollow trunk of the red gum tree was the first home of Johann Friedrich Herbig who arrived in South Australia in 1855. Herbig married in 1858 and the family moved out of the tree into a hut after two children were born and the tree became too small for the family.
