Historical information

An inscription on the reverse of the photograph reads "Approximately four miles south west of Auburn. On the right side of the photograph is where the house is, Section no.528 Upper Wakefield. On the left hand side is Section no.523. The house was called 'Floral Farm' a Pioneer Valley home built by well-known early Auburn building (builder) Joseph Meller. The Kirkbrights lived here. The house was built 1876-1880. The family first lived in a dug-out near the present house, the ruin of the dug-out is just visible. Howard Kirkbright of Glenelg could provide a family history." A researcher has provided the following information: 'We have an original print of this photograph in the family, as my grandmother, Ann Teague Kirkbright, grew up at Floral Farm. My aunt has written verso: Floral Farm/1916'. I think the date of the actual photo could be anywhere from the late 19th to early 20th century.'
