Summary

Album of photographs by H. Y. L. Brown, SA Government Geologist, thought to have been taken during an expedition with camels to the MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory in May 1890. The photographs cover part of the journey, from Alice Springs to Emily Gap, Arltunga gold fields, Paddy's Hole, Claraville, Hart's Range, Glen Helen Station, Mount Sonder, Haast's Bluff, and the Finke River. Some photographs are loose and have been trimmed to half pages. Two photographs are missing, captioned 'Chamber's Pillar, Finke River SA' and 'M.C. Wiltshire & native police, Boggy Waterhole, Finke River'.

Historical information

A newspaper article in the South Australian Register 15 October 1890, p.6 describes the trip by the Government Geologist, Mr H. Y. L. Brown to the MacDonnell Ranges.
