Summary

"Kurralta", Burnside (Formerly residence of Dr. Wyatt). Property and residence of Mr Percy Ifould. Photograph was taken in either 1927 or 1928. No external alterations had at that time been made in the house since Dr Wyatt's time. Dr Wyatt was Protector of the Aborigines and the name Kurralta means 'set on a hill'. Dr Wyatt bought the property in 1842 and George Kingston designed the two storey, eight roomed house. It was built in 1844 on the side of a hill overlooking the entrance to Waterfall Gully. Wyatt and his wife established an extensive garden of flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and an orangery. Water was pumped from the creek. A gardener's cottage and a dairy were added later. In 1917 Percy Ifould, Managing Director of Dunstan's Quarries took over. The main house is now located at 23 Kurralta Drive Burnside.
