Historical information

Wesley Millican born 19 October 1828 at Garrigill, Cumbria, son of Thomas Millican and Mary Gill. Married Jane Giddings at Gawler on 30 June 1859. He had come to SA from Lancashire in 1845, returned to England about 1850 after the death of his father, then came back to SA about 1854. He returned to England with his wife and eldest child Hannah ca. 1860-1861. They had 2 daughters there, Elizabeth Jane (b. 1862, Agar Town, Middlesex) and Mary Emma (b. 1864, Church Coniston, Lancashire), before the family emigrated 1864 on the 'Eastern Empire'. Three sons and another daughter were born in SA between 1866 and 1870. Wesley Millican lived at Kapunda but died in Wallaroo Hospital on 24 March 1909 aged 80; his wife Jane predeceased him in 1891.
