General notes

The Adelaide 'Observer' newspaper in its pictorial supplement for Saturday 17 August 1929 (pages 32-33) used this photograph. 'King Carnival reigned supreme at the Adelaide Oval last Saturday, when the annual pageant in the interests of charitable institutions attracted more than 40,000 spectators. Hundreds of collectors, attired in every conceivable variety of costume, reaped a rich harvest of coins for the cause in view, and, in addition, about £1,600 was paid by the public for admission to the Oval. Many other sources also helped to swell the carnival funds. Numerous displays were provided.'

The recipient of this photograph, Miss Grace Meadows, was at the time nanny to children of Mr H. Webb of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, and was sent it while at Cape St Jacques, French Cochin, in China.
