General notes

The following information was provided by a researcher: In B 71543/15 and B 71543/24, there are three images that show locomotives on a dock or a ship. These images were taken in March 1926, when the heavy-lift vessel Beldis arrived at Ocean Steamer's Wharf at Port Adelaide. On board were 14 locomotives (and their tenders) built by Armstrong Whitworth in Newcastle, England. Not pictured here, but a second ship arrived the following month, carrying 16 locomotives. That ship did not carry a crane so it was docked outboard of the Beldis and the crane of the first-arriving ship was used to lift the vehicles from the outer ship to the dock (which must have been an impressive sight). To provide context, this was part of William Alfred Webb's plan to rehabilitate the South Australian Railways.
