Summary

The Executive Committee listening to the speech made by Governor of SA Sir George Le Hunte at the unveiling of the memorial in North Terrace, 6 June 1904. The Chief Justice Sir Samuel Way is 3rd from left in front row. The secretary of the committee, A.E.H. Evans is the second top-hatted man from left in back row. Soldiers can be seen near the dais, with crowds of people down King William Street.

General notes

A.E.H. Evans, Adelaide accountant and auditor, was the secretary of the organising committee for the public subscription to erect an equestrian statue to commemorate those SA soldiers who died during the Boer War in South Africa. A later company which took over his business was the donor of this photograph. (See B 62681 for a photograph of the Executive Committee for the National Memorial Fund in 1904.).
