General notes

A.E.H. Evans (1871-1950) was the Adelaide-based secretary for the Bulolo Gold Dredging Company. He collected photographs of the enterprise which were donated by the later company that took over his business.

Historical information

Cecil John Lieven was a district officer at Morobe in New Guinea. He had served in the A.I.F. in World War One with rank of lieutenant and later was stationed at Buka in the North Solomon Islands as a government patrol officer. On 1 January 1923 he was issued with the first miner's right in the Mandated Territory Goldfields District, and found the first alluvial gold at Bulolo and Edie Creek. He died of menigitis in Melbourne on 20 January 1932.
