Summary

Unveiling of bronze equestrian statue of King George V in Angas Gardens, North Adelaide (north side of Torrens River) by the Governor of SA Sir Willoughby Norrie on Anzac Day 1950. The sculptor was M. Lambert, A.R.A. and the pedestal made of Waikerie freestone and granite.

General notes

A proposed memorial to the late King George V was discussed in the Advertiser as early as February 1936. The statue in Angas Gardens was paid for by public subscription and the SA Government. This photograph was in a group collected by A.E.H. Evans, Adelaide accountant and auditor, who had been secretary of the committee to organise a public subscription to erect an memorial to the King's father Edward VII before World War One.
