Historical information

Donald Rumsfeld, United States Defence Secretary, and other senior members of the United States government attended the Australia-United States Ministerial Meeting in Adelaide on 17th November 2005. The event was hosted by Defence Minister Robert Hill and Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer. Rumsfeld was confronted with fierce criticism by 500 anti-war demonstrators at a rally on the steps outside Parliament House. South Australia's assistant police commissioner described Mr. Rumsfeld as one of the world's top terrorist targets and the rally was originally banned. However a decision was later made to lift the ban.
