General notes

An image from a collection of photographs and slides used to illustrate talks given by Enid Robertson: an address entitled 'Wittunga Garden - From a Family Point of View' given to the Historical Society of South Australia, 1996; and a second address entitled 'The Ashby Family' given to the Coromandel Valley National Trust, 2006. The individual images can be viewed by doing a number search on B 70984; this image relates to talks on 5 July 1996 (OH 363) and 1 February 2006 (OH 787) by Enid L. Robertson.

Historical information

Edwin Ashby was born in England in 1861 and migrated to South Australia in 1888. He joined the real estate firm of Saunders which became Saunders and Ashby. In 1902 with his wife Esther (nee Coleman) and three children he moved to the hills, building his home Wittunga in virgin scrub.
