Historical information

The artist is William Westall, who was on board The H.M.S. Investigator with Matthew Flinders. The painting was reproduced in 'A Voyage to Terra Australis' and described as 'Entrance of Port Lincoln, taken from behind Memory Cove.' It also appears in the book 'Views of Australian Scenery', by Westall. For a similar sketch by Westall do an archival number search on B 15953.
