Summary

View of 'Elizabeth Vila', the Solomon family home at Kent Town. Taken about the time of the marriage of Elizabeth Solomon to Rabbi Abraham Tobias Boas in 1873, the engaged couple are standing at the gate. Isaac Solomon (owner of the house and Elizabeth's father) is third from left; the name of the woman to the left of the front door is unknown. The woman seated to the right of the door is Mrs Esther Solomon, Isaac's mother, then aged in her late 90s. (She died July 1875 aged 100 years and six months.).

General notes

There is a reference to the house being built in the 'Adelaide Observer' 18 January 1873, page 10, col. a: 'Mr I. Solomon has built a house in Kent Town containing 12 rooms, cellar, bathroom, pantry, &c., also a coach-house and stable. The house is Glen Osmond stone with cement dressings. There is a handsome verandah round three sides of the house. The interior is fitted up in first-class style ... The cost was about 1,400 pounds. The work was carried out by Mr C. Farr under the architect Mr D. Garlick.'

Isaac Solomon's wife Isabella had died in December 1863. [from information supplied].
