Summary

[General description] This two storey stone building, located on the intersection of South and Ayliffe's Roads, is starting to look run-down. It has an iron roof and iron lace balcony and displays an advertisement for Woodroofes Kola Beer. The licensee of the original Lady McDonnell Hotel on this site was T. Pedler in 1857, the last licensee was E. Grindell. The story goes that a signwriter misspelled the name Lady MacDonnell, hence the change. [On back of photograph] 'Lady McDonald Temperance Hotel / April 24, 1937 / Formerly the Lady McDonnell Hotel / Situated on the South Road / Section 2100 / and about 1.25 miles north east of the foot of Tapley's Hill / Building demolished in September 1939'.
