Historical information

Dr Barbara Baird is currently (2006) Associate Professor of Women's Studies at Flinders University. She grew up in Tasmania but spent most of her adult life in South Australia, studying at Flinders University, and teaching Women's Studies at the University of Adelaide; before taking up the position of Coordinator of Women's Studies at the University of Tasmania in 1999. She has also worked in a range of workplaces outside the university and has been involved in various community activist and political organisations. Her PhD thesis began with an oral history project about South Australian women's experiences of abortion before 1970; she has published articles about the relationship between the SA Police and lesbians and gay men, and about feminist debates about lesbian sexuality; and been involved in an oral history project of women's political activity.
