Summary

Photograph, in postcard format, of a blind sand burrower. The description, in pencil on the reverse side, thought to have been written by Daisy Bates, reads: "The blind sand burrower of the Central Australian areas. I have seen one of its burrows twelve feet down in the sand hills. It only comes to the surface for a minute or two after a good rainfall, which it apparently smells from its deep burrow. It can burrow so quickly that the fastest digging cannot retrieve it. It has soft yellow silky fur of beautiful texture. The little pink nose is very sensitive - its tail is also pink and short and rather like the folding tin vessels in its formation, and supplies some leverage in burrowing. Its food consists of worms and other underground creatures and small bulbs."
