Burra Burra Copper Mine

Four scenes from the Burra Burra Copper Mine engraved for a newspaper page for the "Illustrated London News", 2 December 1848, page 339. The views have been later hand-coloured. The scenes are (1) Kooringa - The Burra Burra township; (2) Opening of Lode in Stock's air-hole, in the mine; (3) Interior of the mine; and (4) Burra Burra Mines - the surface operations. Newspaper text is inserted between the scenes, including "We are indebted for the drawings of our illustrations to Mr. J.B. Graham, who has recently returned from Australia, where, after a few years' labour, he has realised a handsome fortune from his shares in the Burra Burra Mine."
