General notes

The Williams family was from Port Pirie ... we five [Mary and Vin Williams and children] travelled to Adelaide regularly on that motorbike, Mum as a pillion passenger behind Dad, and we three children in the sidecar with all our luggage (we must have travelled light!). We all had airforce type helmets which buckled under the chin, and all wore goggles, and being the youngest and smallest, I got to ride in the front of the sidecar on a little seat, with Trevor and Gloria on a double seat behind me. Christies Beach was just a couple of rows of shacks on the clifftop back then, and steps were cut into the cliff face to get down onto the beach. It was a rented shack, and on this day, our grandparents were visiting from Gawler, together with an aunt and cousin ... we kids would be out of bed and off at daybreak, spending all day on the beach, for hours on our own, in a world which was much safer then. This photograph appeared in the 'Advertiser' Saturday 27 August 2005, but some of the details (date and where the family were from) are incorrect.
