General notes

Born 29 March 1829, John H. Field joined the South Australian Police Force on 1 April 1854 as a Third Class Trooper. He rose through the ranks over the years, reaching the rank of Sub-inspector. He resigned on 31 August 1904. See D 7831(Misc) for a copy of his service record.
