General notes

William Davidson, master mariner, was born in Cumberland, England, about 1820, son of Thomas Davidson. Migrated to South Australia in the mid-1840s, and lived at Woodville prior to his death. Married Susannah Higson in 1850, with whom he had six children; he had four children with his second wife, Elizabeth Green, whom he married in 1867. William Davidson, his wife Elizabeth and three of their children died when his ship the 'Emily Smith' was wrecked off Kangaroo Island in 1877.
