General notes

The artwork has been inscribed "Country north west of Point Encounter, showing scrub covered plain and the highland in the distance from which John Ainsworth Horrocks was making, when the accident put a stop to his journey. From Mr. Gill's original sketch taken in the afternoon of the same day that the attack of the Blacks took place in the evening under the hill the figures are represented to be on in the sketch, a circumstance which induced J. A. Horrocks to name the hill which ends abruptly to the highest end. 'Point Encounter', situated about (North West from Depot Creek and distant abouth thirty miles) from the neck of the creek, South of Lake Torrens near ten miles. August twenty eight. A:D: One thousand eight hundred and forty six. Before starting alone with his camel, Mr.Gill and Kilroy the camel driver. John Ainsworth Horrocks North West Expedition._."
