Summary

George Henry Pitt First South Australian Archivist. Notes on back of photograph state "Born January 1891. Son of James and Annie Pitt. Educated at Rose Park Public School, Norwood Public School and Prince Alfred College. Joined Public Library staff in April 1906. BA Degree in 1920. Placed in charge of the Archives Department upon its establishment in 1919" Pitt laid the foundation of a pictorial collection which included a systematic record of Adelaide's archtectural development. It was done on a modest budget for 6 years in the 1930s, without an assistant.
